Dear John,
In January, a uranium mine started mining ore inside a new national monument, threatening the waters of the Grand Canyon and the Havasupai Tribe. You can join Tribal leaders and community
advocates in calling for an end to this potentially disastrous mining. <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=73c209da6aea9e01435c8ac6885bb8bb705b5e07c5b3980cfa4083ea71747093dd168effa5d1fd31acf1249

The Pinyon Plain (formerly Canyon) Uranium Mine is located 7 miles south of Grand Canyon National Park -- and inside the nation's newest national monument, Baaj Nwaavjo I'tah Kukveni
-- Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument.
Although President Biden's monument designation bans new mining claims and development, pre-existing claims like Pinyon Plain's are exempted. Tribes and clean-water advocates have fought
the proposed mine for decades, but the company recently started to extract ore and is preparing to transport it to White Mesa Mill in Blanding, Utah.
The Havasupai, Navajo Nation, Ute Mountain Ute, Hopi and many other Tribes have raised concerns about the mine and its transport of uranium. In January, Sierra Club and many other organizations
sent a letter asking Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs to facilitate closure of the mine. We are now also asking for the assistance of the Biden Administration.
Please join Sierra Club and Indigenous leaders to help close Pinyon Plain uranium mine. <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=73c209da6aea9e01e9fe47a1139656d3dcde23ca86e68c1e0636cec6c22a47552935ed8

The mine threatens to pollute the groundwater that feeds the seeps and springs in Grand Canyon, which support plants, animals, and people. Once the mine contaminates the groundwater,
there is no way to clean it up. The best way to protect Grand Canyon and the people who depend on its waters is to close this mine.
