Landscaping The landscaping plan was developed with input from the City of Port Townsend Parks Department staff and the Parks Recreation, Trees and Trails Advisory Board (PRTTAB). Plants were identified which are beautiful, low-maintenance, and deer-resistant. The landscaping will be watered by a temporary irrigation system which is designed to last approximately three years. The first year after planting is called the "plant establishment period", and during this time, the landscaping subcontractor will be responsible for maintaining the wellbeing of the new plantings. After the plant establishment period ends, the property owners will be responsible for the landscaping adjacent to their property, per current City codes. If you are unsure who maintains what areas, please submit a citizen concern at: https://cityofpt.us/administration/page/concern- code-violation-reporting-process.The design intent is that the landscaping will not interfere with visibility or block any road signs. For anyone interested in reading the project plant list, please refer to the plan set on the City's webpage. The plant list is on sheet 52: https://cityofpt.us/sitesjdefaultjfiles/fileattachments/public worksjpagej6251/discoveryroad bidplans.pdf Green Bikeway Markings What do the green markings mean that will be installed along the Discovery Road corridor? Green markings are used to raise motorist and bicyclist awareness to potential areas of conflict -- for example at driveways or intersections. Dashed green is used when the bikeway crosses an intersection. Solid green is used at driveways that cross the bikeway. • 7 .,-a.- muck ceossuic i • }" /'- j' , 7- ' 4y' 1. •S PATH\\ w NAP,h ` s:- f ,0l1Qa1 aY • x 7 ,,.: _ = 1 T _! ij ". - .•-._.. , ,ems °,z"-- ^, { y, 6 Air Ar Page 2 of 4 city of ort, , j.R, ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT TownsendNEWSLETTER 1. Buses and bus stop shelters Jefferson Transit will install three new red bus shelters along the Discovery Road corridor. The new shelters have a bench posted Jefferson Transit schedules, and an area for riders using mobility devices to wait in a covered place. If you notice a problem with a bus stop shelter, please contact Jefferson Transit customer service at 360-385-4777 (option#1)or email custserv@ieffersontransit.com. ! ,,.: • 4a►e S r 1 Bus stop shelter -'- The roadway design intends for the buses to stop in the lane. In-lane stops are considered a road safety feature, because cars cannot accelerate around the bus, potentially hitting a disembarking passenger or other pedestrian. In-lane stops also slow down traffic, making the road safer for all. In-lane stops generally range from thirty seconds to two minutes, depending on the riders. For example, riders climbing onto the bus results in a 30 second stop. On the other hand,a rider using the bus wheelchair lift or bus bike rack may require a stop that takes up to two minutes. When construction is complete, bus routes along Discovery will resume their regular service, with the eastbound #3 bus running hourly between McPherson and Sheridan, and the westbound#4 bus running every half hour between Sheridan and Rainier Street.
