HomeMy WebLinkAbout061424 - Sunday's Father's Day vigil at the Navy weapons transfer depotALERT: BE CAUTIOUS This email originated outside the organization. Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. Dear Friends: I offer this 2 to a page flier with you to share. Perhaps I will see you at Sunday's Father's Day vigil. There are 2 picnic tables where we share food in the park. Last year people who witnessed the trespassing action benefited as they watched next to the highway if they had a chair, or blanket to sit on the grass. Parking is scarce at the L.B. Good park on Indian Island. Consider going to the nearby H.J. Carroll Park and carpooling. 9884 SR 19, Chimacum I am called to invite people to join me in risking arrest by walking onto the navy weapons transfer depot base and invoking Gandhi, Martin Luther King, a peaceful call to end the wars. Last year we had a Quaker gathering at the gate, a circle that included men with guns guarding the base. I chose to be arrested, others did not. They were given time to safely walk back to the park before I was arrested, then released by the officers to walk back, joining the others in the park. Sunday, before we trespass onto the base, we will discuss what individuals are called to do when we are at risk of arrest, in front of the gate. For example, people laying on the road, a die-in, not leaving, will be arrested. The year I brought a sleeping bag, laid down on the road, blocking the entry, I was asked how long I intended to be there.. I said until I was arrested. "That makes it simple," I was told.... "You are under arrest." I was taken to the Jefferson County jail, and released. Someone drove me back to the park, where I rejoined everyone present. When I went to court in Jefferson County the prosecutor chose not to enter the courtroom. Case dismissed... It's unknowable what the system will choose to do. Non-violent peaceful, that's what I want.... Kathryn Railsback of Ground Zero will do a non-violence training on Sunday... I raise my hands to the mystery, to those being slaughtered, asking for our help. Doug
