NORDLAND — Fecal bacteria levels in the marine water at East Beach County Park in Nordland have returned to normal and Jefferson County Public Health has removed the health warning.
Samples collected Thursday, June 20th at the beach and analyzed for enterococcus bacteria averaged less than 10 enterococci per 100 milliliters of water. The warning, issued Tuesday,
June 18th was triggered by bacteria levels greater than 500, which was well above the warning level of 104. Staff have removed the warning sign from the park.
In 2024, Jefferson County Public Health is also monitoring fecal bacteria at the Herb Beck Marina Beach on Linger Longer Road in Quilcene, and at Fort Worden State Park with help from
the Port Townsend Marine Science Center. Results from BEACH testing throughout Washington are posted to the Ecology BEACH webpage at ecology.wa.gov/water-shorelines/water-quality/saltwater/beach-pro
gram. Bacteria levels can fluctuate widely, and the public is advised to look for the “weekly averages” when searching the website for results. As of June 21st, East Beach was not showing
up on the Ecology map, but Ecology is working to fix the problem, and the results can be found by clicking the “Beach data” link on the above referenced webpage.
