She grew up on Vashon Island and at first thought she’d be a teacher. But her love of museums led her to discover a way to combine teaching with museums. After a couple of stints at Seattle-area museums Tara arrived here in 2019. She was only recently promoted to Executive Director and has an ambitious program of “reimagining” the museum. There are major changes now happening as she reshapes the museum to “integrate art and history.” Our museum will never be the same. Still, the artifacts from the rough and rowdy days of sailors and “ladies of the night” are safely tucked away in archives. Here you'll find vintage recordings from the dawn of the Hi-Fi Era — imaginative, light-hearted (and sometimes light-headed) pop stylings designed to underscore everything from the backyard barbecue to the high-tech bachelor pad. Darrell Brogdon serves up two hours of incredibly strange music! The Retro Cocktail Hour comes to KPTZ from Kansas Public Radio. CATS IN OUR LAPS with host Phil Andrus Sunday 7-10pm Cats in Our Laps is a radio variety show in the tradition of the early days of radio when radio was a local resource for live music, community news, and neighborhood gathering. Each Cats in Our Laps features live and recorded music, either in the KPTZ studio or from the world ‘round via Zoom, as well as interviews, poems read by Cats Poet Laureate Deborah Kate Hammond, and the week’s weather forecast with Cats Weather Laureate Al Latham. Keeping the Cats in line, in laps or not, is host Phil Andrus. July 7 On the reader’s podium for this edition of Cats in Our Laps is Missy Nielsen, with a reading to bring out the child in all of us, whatever our age. Singer and songwriter Deb Seymour is this night's featured artist. Deb’s music tickles the funny bone in her audiences, with special attention given to the furry creatures which inhabit our laps. Dancer and dance teacher Bill Evans is Cats’ guest in the 9:00 hour to tell of his upcoming workshops and performances. July 14 Don White takes the reader’s podium for this balmy (hope so) July evening with a short story or essay taken from his extensive collection of prose. Coming from her home in Seattle for Cats in Our Laps is singer of soul, jazz and gospel Elnah Jordan, the night’s first featured artist. Guitarist Roger Ferguson is featured artist in the 9:00 hour, Roger being an award-winning flat picker from the bluegrass tradition.
