While we celebrate a safe and welcome July 4th — our independence day – please think about our independent rights. Our democracy needs the participation of all its people, with equal
rights under the law. But our rule of law is eroding, as the ultra-conservative justices on the Supreme Court of the United States continue to refuse to defend “we the people.”
Within a week the Supreme Court declared a president is immune from prosecution for acts he committed within his constitutional powers while in office, and tossed out the Chevron doctrine
that ensures our food, water and air is safely regulated. These actions along with the court’s decision not to uphold women's rights with its Roe vs Wade decision, and the roll-back
of the Voting Rights Act— it has become abundantly clear that the conservative justices do not believe in the rights of the American people—the prime principle of our democracy.
The fact that we strive to perfect our democracy by working for liberty and justice for all has been thrown out by the so-called Supreme Court.
It’s egregious that the Supreme Court has decided a president can act like a king, while women and voters have a limited say in the governing of our nation.
These rulings go against our democracy. We the People are losing our rights. We must defend our democracy in the ballot box for our future and the world’s.
