Put your state B&O Taxes to work in Port Townsend thru PT Main Street--pledge today! You may know our work from colorful events like Concerts on the Dock, the Uptown Street Fair, the Downtown Trick or Treat Parade, festive holiday events/local shopping promotions, and Creative District efforts. You might enjoy the winter lights in the trees, beautiful hanging flower baskets or the downtown pocket park like Adams Street Park, or the Tyler Plaza with its overhead lights—all Main Street projects. We recently coordinated Earth Day Cleanup downtown, care for the rain gardens, manage two loan programs and hung approximately 500 pieces of children’s art in the stores as part of Art Wave for the month of May. The Main Street Tax Incentive Program allows businesses to put their state B&O taxes to work locally through the Port Townsend Main Street Program. This is a key source of funding for our 501c3 nonprofit and enables us to put our mission and workplan (with so many programs for our community) into action. Business contributors who wish to participate must sign up each year through the Washington State DOR website but payments are not due to our office until Nov. 8, 2024. 75% of your contribution is returned to you via B&O tax credits in 2025. There are two opportunities right now that might help you fund such improvements to your business in Jefferson County! First, the USDA Rural Energy for America Program <https://ptmainstreet.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=72d728eac0a891fc7cdd75517&id=10ab78424b&e=19a6aabdc6> (REAP) is accepting applications until September 30, 2024 for grants and/or loans for rural small businesses and/or agricultural producers, for energy efficiency or renewable energy systems. This includes installing solar, high-efficiency HVAC systems, insulation, refrigeration, and more! Additionally, a brand new opportunity is available thanks to the good work at Jefferson County, where the county recently implemented the Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy and Resiliency <https://ptmainstreet.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=72d728eac0a891fc7cdd75517&id=0335e2f571&e=19a6aabdc6> (C-PACER) program. It allows commercial property owners to seek long-term financing for qualified improvements related to energy and building resiliency. The loans are tied to the property, not the owner, meaning business owners are not locked into a long term commitment if they decide to sell. Visit Local 20/20's website <https://ptmainstreet.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=72d728eac0a891fc7cdd75517&id=ebf7161a10&e=19a6aabdc6> for more information about both of these opportunities. <https://mcusercontent.com/72d728eac0a891fc7cdd75517/images/5623fb54-c0ca-f016-f809-8f2247da6613.jpg> Fourth of July Ferry Traffic - Plan Ahead We’re expecting about 700,000 people to ride our ferries from Friday, June 28, through Sunday, July 7. To help navigate this July Fourth travel rush, customers are encouraged to download and use the WSDOT mobile app. The app and our website allow visitors to see sailing schedules, view live terminal conditions and traffic cameras, check for rider alerts that provide service updates by route, monitor a real-time map for the location of each operating vessel and make vehicle reservations for our Anacortes/San Juan Islands or Port Townsend/Coupeville runs. We run a complex operation of roughly 400 daily sailings. Our online tools let customers take control of their ferry travel to help plan a trip and know what to expect before they get in a ferry waiting line. <https://mcusercontent.com/72d728eac0a891fc7cdd75517/images/d29b62eb-ae1e-2baa-4296-c24d9c1e083c.jpg> Key City Public Theatre Presents: Teen Initiatives Perferformances The Teen Initiative provides opportunities for more than 20 students ages 13 to 19 to be mentored by Key City Public Theatre’s professional artists, and produces the entire show from set and costume designs to stage management and publicity. All of the students participate in this educational program at no cost, thanks to the generosity of numerous individual sponsors who raise paddles at the theater's annual benefit auction. KCPT's Teen Initiative presents Pride & Prejudice & Perms, a play written by Kathleen McDowell and directed by Anna Munn, running from July 5-11. It's 1987 and Lizzie Bennett has a lot on her plate: annoying little sisters, an overbearing mother, crazy teachers, not to mention the preppy Will Darcy, a recent transfer from a local private school. Along with her best friends Jane and Charlotte, Lizzie navigates the tempestuous world of high school, boys, and really big hair in this campy adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel. These grants total over $850,000 which will allow for rebuilding of broken sidewalk, paving of Tyler Street, addition of wheelchair ramps, bulbouts for pedestrian safety, planting of trees, and replacement of a handful of trees that have caused the sidewalks to heave. The impetus for this project is to improve accessibility in Uptown. The Jefferson County Farmers Market, DASH, and Jefferson Transit are large supporters to help with mobility of those experiencing disabilities.
