HomeMy WebLinkAbout070824 email - RE_ Are all welcome_Update: IT staff has changed the title to Customer Self-Service. Background: Citizen Self-Service (CSS) is the software company’s name for the application. During set-up, our EPL team decided to default to what the vendor calls it, and CSS is the standard acronym for the tool. Therefore—and following a short exchange today after receiving this public input—we decided to customize our title to “Customer Self-Service” to address the concern expressed, yet remain consistent with the universal acronym. We recognize that “Public” may be a better term, but “Customer” does the job, and has the added bonus of maintaining the CSS acronym for ease of use and clarity of vendor communication. Josh D. Could we please change the title of these Energov pages <https://energovweb.jeffcowa.us/energov_prod/SelfService#/home> ? “Citizen” strongly suggests that immigrants are not welcome to access this public information. As an immigrant myself, I always find the use of the term “citizen” in the context of any government action to be a thinly veiled threat. Yes, “citizen” has several meanings in our language, and doesn’t always refer to a person who holds American citizenship, but there are other, less restrictive words that will serve the purpose equally well. I suggest PUBLIC.
