MEETING MINUTES
JEFFERSON COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION Regular Meeting – May 15, 2024

• Approval of Minutes:
a. May 1st, 2024 Regular Meeting: KC 1st/LR 2nd – 6 yay, 0 abstention – approved with
following edit: Commissioner Llewellyn was in attendance via zoom at the May 1st, 2024
Planning Commission Meeting.
GENERAL UPDATES
1. Planning Commission Updates:
a. MaS: Sent a code draft internally to other members of the board for review.
b. LR: Met the week prior with the House Builders Association and the County Administrator
to discuss the performance of Department of Community Development (DCD).
c. MaS: Would like someone at the county that the Outreach Sub-Committee can run
messages through before sending them out to the community.
2. DCD Staff Updates:
a. Comp Pan Amendments: On May 13th the BoCC accepted the Planning Commission’s Final
Docket Recommendations for the Comp Plan Amendments.
b. GMSC Update: On May 14th, the Growth Management Steering Committee (GMSC) met
to discuss the Countywide Planning Policy, and they will meet next on June 11 from 6-8
pm.
c. Upcoming Workshop with BoCC: Since the last Planning Commission meeting,
Commissioner Coker submitted some questions concerning DCD’s permitting process.
DCD is preparing for a workshop with the BoCC on May 20th, and those questions will be
addressed during that workshop.
d. Upcoming UGA Charettes: Port Hadlock Urban Growth Area charettes are scheduled for
May 28, 29, and 30th from 10-4 at the Old Hadlock Motel.

REGULAR BUSINESS
• PC Workshop on Short Term Rentals
a. Synopsis: In the May 1 meeting, the PC was provided with an extensive summary of the
three public workshops addressing Short-Term Rentals. Public comment was also heard.
b. Assignment: In a workshop format, the PC discussed various issues and approaches to
managing short term rentals.
c. Options & Decisions: DCD staff member Brent Butler will compile the work and
discussion done by the board and bring the information back to the board as actionable
areas.
