On Tuesday, the full committee advanced the following three bills: Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies; Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies; and the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies. On Wednesday, the full committee advanced another three measures: Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies; Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies; and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies. The Department is recognizing “climate champions, solutions, and innovation towards transportation decarbonization, transformation, accessible communities, and mobility freedom for all.” The Administration is also releasing its report to Congress on Decarbonizing U.S. Transportation <https://watransit.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6c70c3a1d76c22fe2ef2a8361&id=26af4488db&e=850008f825> to outline a strategy for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to fulfill international commitments. Federal Transit Administration On Tuesday, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced <https://watransit.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6c70c3a1d76c22fe2ef2a8361&id=82699dd447&e=850008f825> project selections under the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Low or No Emission Grant Program and Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program. The agency awarded approximately $1.5 billion in combined funding to support 117 projects in 47 states that will acquire, replace, or rehabilitate buses and related equipment and facilities. In the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), FTA prioritized projects that “help strengthen U.S. bus manufacturing, stabilize the cost of new buses, and accelerate the delivery of new vehicles.” A press release notes that the program was once again heavily oversubscribed with project sponsors requesting approximately six times more funding than the amount available for awards. We would like to congratulate our colleagues at Pierce Transit on their $14.78 million grant. It was one of several awards totaling $47 million made to members of the Washington State Transit Association (WSTA), including Island Transit, King County Metro, Link Transit, Clallam Transit, and Grays Harbor.
