071524 - 🔊 KPTZ Spotlight 📻 July 16-31_ 2024 🎶
ALERT: BE CAUTIOUS This email originated outside the organization. Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot! From Community Radio - KPTZ 91.9 FM Port Townsend <https://mcusercontent.com/6df05bfd2eaa0ab6bf92aa5cf/images/6ac14f13-6c95-a50b-f122-d41742d17092.jpg> What’s Fresh on the KPTZ Airwaves July 16-31, 2024 PROGRAMMING NOTES BIDDING FAREWELL… Any lover of folk music on public radio in the Northwest would have to have been living under a rock to not have heard Dave <https://mcusercontent.com/6df05bfd2eaa0ab6bf92aa5cf/images/d2bcc879-c7c5- b2db-8a96-41a5022419e1.jpg> Long on the air. He had been on KBCS in Bellevue, and I think I saw him broadcasting live from the Northwest Folklife Festival, and that was probably in the ’80s. Stringband Theory, Dave's long running show, was on my fridge magnet as having aired on KSER in Everett. And when I got to KPTZ here in Port Townsend ten years ago I found Dave already on the air here with Stringband Theory each Tuesday and Thursday morning. Dave has a passion for both terrestrial radio and traditional music, especially fiddle music. From a DJ standpoint, he's really good at it: calm and collected, interesting and informative, easy to listen to. As Phil Andrus says - Dave has a “convivial on-air personality.” Dave has now chosen to step away from his 7:30AM start time and retire Stringband Theory. I know we will all miss listening to him. If you would like to reach out, he can be contacted at dave@kptz.org <mailto:dave@kptz.org> . We’ve heard from lots of KPTZ listeners already, and I've been passing your messages on, but I'm sure he would love to hear from you directly. In keeping with the way Dave ended each Stringband Theory show: “I'll see you soon, on the radio.” I hope so. – General Manager Taylor Clark …AND SAYING HELLO Taking the place of Stringband Theory will be a reprise of American Routes on Tuesdays and a new show, Folk Alley, on Thursdays. Listeners may know that American Routes can currently be heard on Saturdays from 2:00 to 4:00pm. Well, now you can get a double dose of American Routes goodness by tuning in on Tuesday mornings from 7:30 to 9:30am. If you're not familiar with American Routes, host Nick Spitzer describes it as “a weekly two-hour public radio program produced in New Orleans, presenting a broad range of American music — blues and jazz, gospel and soul, old-time country and rockabilly, Cajun and zydeco, Tejano and Latin, roots rock and pop, avant-garde and classical. The songs and stories on American Routes describe both the community origins of our music, musicians, and cultures (the ‘roots’) and the many directions they take over time.” On Thursday mornings at 7:30am be sure to tune in to hear Folk Alley – a production of the FreshGrass Foundation that features a unique blend of traditional folk, roots, Americana, contemporary singer/songwriters, indie-folk, Celtic, bluegrass, and other world sounds. Both of these shows come to us from PRX – Public Radio Exchange. DAILY PROGRAMMING TUESDAY NEAR AND FAR with host Kani-Ma Tuesday 9:30-11am DJ Kani-ma spins Near and Far – featuring multi-cultural, folk, and ethnic music from around the world, local musicians, and musicians that have passed through our very own Port Townsend – many of whom she has seen perform live. She is passionate about music and community radio. July 16 DJ Kane-Ma interviews Jim Nyby at 10am for the Candlelight Concert at Trinity United Methodist Church on July 25. Jim play Blues and New Orleans Jazz piano. <https://mcusercontent.com/6df05bfd2eaa0ab6bf92aa5cf/images/5237ce32-06df-b915-20df-4af315526252.jpg> BOOKLOVERS’ CAFÉ with host Cris Wilson Alternate Tuesdays and repeats the following Sunday, both 12:30-1pm July 16 In a reprise show from 2017, Cris Wilson talks with Dan Chaon, about his latest novel, Ill Will, and his most recent collection of short stories, Stay Awake.
