Washington State has mandated Open Public Meetings Act and Open Public Records Act training for government staff and officials. Newly elected or reappointed members of Jefferson County Advisory Boards and Commissions arc also required to take this training. This acceptance of Service Officer fills the vacancy for that required Post. On May 10, 2024, an application was received for the Jefferson County Veterans Advisory Board Officer at Large position. Board of County Commissioners(BOCC)staff advertised for the vacant position until Sunday, July 7, 2024. ANALYSIS: It is recommended that the Board of County Commissioner's approve the following appointments for Peter Braccio and John Hamilton,commencing June 1 in the year in which appointed and extending for a three-year term; Junc 1, 2024 -June 1, 2027. I am a Service Officer for DAV and on a weekly basis I help Veterans file for benefits out of the Port Townsend Community Center. If yes, please list board/committee names and dates served: Jefferson County Sheriffs Citizen Advisory Committee from 2016 to present Whyareyou applying for this appointment? PP As a Chapter Service Officer for DAV I feel I am qualified to support Veterans through the Veterans Advisory Board as well as through my service officer activities. What problems, issues or concerns do you see facing this particular Task Force, and how would you propose they be addressed? At this time I am not fully aware of the issues but as a veteran myself want to work to help other veterans get the benefits that are available to them. What special skills. knowledge, or experience do you have to contribute to this Task Force? Skilled at helping Veterans in the process of gettiing benefits from the Veterans Administration. Have leadership skills in group and committee work, also follow through with tasks. BOARD and COMMISSIONS VOLUNTEER APPLICATION/STATEMENT OF INTEREST Page 3 It is desirable for Advisory Board and Commission members to have a broad collective knowledge and interest in various ethnic, religious, cultural, educational and community views. Describe your strengths in this area: In my work life I was President of a large CWA Union Local and represented many diverse groups in the workplace, such as women in non traditional jobs, LGBTQ workers in the workplace supporting getting them benefits others get. Also worked to hire appentices by outreach to community groups not normally given the opportunities for this type employment. What limitations, if any, are there on the time you would be available for meetings and other activities? How much time are you able to devote to the duties of this Task Force? I do have commitments to other organizations but feel confident that with carefull scheduling there should be no problem for me to provide appropriate time for this task force. Additional information you would like to provide about yourself: I am also a U S Army veteran and served in the Vietnam conflict, and today am a Veteran who is on VA disability. This gives me first hand understanding of the process and difficulties many veterans face getting the help they need and deserve.
