Good afternoon officials from ferry-served communities,
Today, with the awarding of a Propulsion Single Source Vendor (PSSV) contract, we’re marking another important milestone in the construction of new vessels. Marine technology experts
ABB <https://global.abb/group/en> will ensure performance and efficiency in the design, construction, and delivery of the new vessels. Their expertise in the design of hybrid-electric
ferries around the world will greatly benefit WSF’s new build program. By working with WSF staff on a fully integrated design, timely delivery of equipment, and expertise in that equipment’s
installation and finally, the commissioning of the vessel, they reduce project risk. ABB will also play a crucial role in training WSF’s crews on the operation and maintenance of new
systems. A media release about the award is attached.
We appreciate Governor Inslee and the legislature’s support for the five new 160-vehicle hybrid-electric ferries and the patience shown while we design and move to building these complicated
