Dear Sir; Yours of March 20 in reply to mine of 15th,. subject Quilcene road -- at hand this A.M. I see no reason to change anything written to you in mine of 15th as your letter does not advance any more reason why I should, from my point of view, submit to the spoilation of this waterfront by allowing a road to cross it along the foot of the bluff. See sketch map enclosed; it gives you my point of view. What would you think about it if you were. in my place and some one wanted to spoil all your plans and spoil the land-by taking a 16 (or 32 ft ?) strip straight across it where it would render the whole thing useless? Guess you'd- kick life a bay steer! So would anyone: Understand this - I`m not opposed to roads and if it were so that I could let go without damage I'd not kick, but in this case the road means practical ruin to this small piece of land and is really confiscation. The. waterfront is too narrow already and ;:R R right of way cuts it -badly as it is; an additional road would leave.only a worthless ribbon of land between the two and start the hill above to sliding as you well know (and which you did not mention in letter just received), Also the water supply would,, in the future, be subject to the whims of any set of county officials who might at any time refuse to let a pipe line cross their 'road -- this you know also. Without a pipe from the -oreek above water would be out Qf the question for the house or lowland. The orchard_ is not much good as it is but can be cut ba.ok and grafted and easily made valuable and that is what I expect to do. Your road would spoil it. There "is no building site on the land exoept .that indi- cated on the sketch map. Your road would cut through this, destroying the site for the building or else putting the road { " right in the dooryard -- either of which would ruin.it I can't see it. l" ir. , I'll sell if a buyer will give me what I've put, into the place.-- no profit -- just simply my money back. That land as it stands today outside of the 4 small iecee sold off costs me $1,784.00 (Seventeen hundred and eighty-Tour rollars) and Ild be willing to take that and let the whole thing go but to give the county a roadway where you plan it would be just the sam e as throw - ing that much cash in the bay for the road would ruin the land for me and make it absolutely unsaleable so the lose would work out the same to me either way,it was done. , I can't see it. If you can send me a buyer, well and good., I'll sell and get out. Otherwise I'll do the best I can to protect my property from ruin.
