Jefferson county board of commissioners has appointed the board members to the peninsula housing authority.
I am a client of the peninsula housing authority and have begun to question the validity of the rent that I am paying.
As it turns out I am paying double the market value for my studio apartment and when I confronted my landlord about this she acknowledged that she knew but because it was government
money it was okay.
I checked with peninsula housing authority to see how it is that an apartment whose value is $675 a month could be offered to a disabled man on social security for $1,350 a month?
My argument is that this is more than double market value and their argument is, yes but still under the threshold of $1,410 which is everything peninsula housing authority could
offer plus 40% of my social security check, maximum available funds.
Peninsula housing authority is claiming that because my rent is still under the maximum available amount, the fact that it is double market value is still acceptable.
I don't believe this is in accordance with The Fair housing act. I am a disabled man who is meant to be protected from price gouging but the peninsula housing authority finds it
acceptable to allow me to be charged double the market value. In my last conversation with them they told me to go get an attorney.
I shouldn't have to fight like that this can be resolved.
Can I look to the county for assistance in this matter please?
