ALL CHORD and MAIN TIE BARS shall have enlarged heads, of sufficient size to make them stronger in the head than in the body of the bar, and shall have pin holes drilled in center of bar head and on center line of bar and fit pins within one thirty-second of an inch. All pins shall be turned true and smooth and fit pin holes within one thirty-second of an inch. ALL METAL shall be good American metal, tough, fibrous, free from injurious flaws, and of ultimate strength noted on strain sheet. ALL CAST IRON shall be sound, smooth, gray metal of such design as to avoid undue internal strains, from unequal cooling. ALL MACHINED SURFACES shall receive at the shops, one good coat of. =white lead and tallow. ALl other IRON SURFACES to receive one coat of good paint at the shops. FLOOR BEAMS to be hung from the bottom chord pins by yoke hangers noted on strain sheet, and screwed up tight against the bottom of the post boxes or flat heads of the hip suspenders. South. of the County Line the people of Hoodsport and Lilliwaup got into Olympia, 30 miles distant, in one day, and.this proposed road would be a step on the way of the completion of a good road between Pt Tc~rnsend and the St ate Capital along the west side of Hood's Canal, that ultimately will be built, and when done, will be a Soy, pleasure and profit to every citizen of Jefferson County. The Idaeon County Guth©ritie~ are ready to build north to the County Line any brae that we agree to meet them with our road. The disposition of the citizens of southern Jefferson is to do their trading in Par~'R~~nsend, if they .are given an opportunity to do 2 so. They have told me that time was of very little object and that they could take their families and bring, their produce and cattle to ... .... town, transact their business, see their friends, and in this gray com-~ bins business with a very enjoyable outing. When we were in this region last fall one Qf the Duckabush farmers said to us w~Te can go up to the top of that high ridge and look down on thriva.ng s®ttlements in the Docamallips Valley, the inhabitants of which have their jollificatiose, marriages and deaths, and we era as entirely unaequaintsd as if it were a valley in Switzerland. fur life is so lonesome and full of hardships., that i.t does seem too bad that vre cannot avail ourselves of such social pleasures as seem should of right be ours, all on account of the lack of a road* Thos® living in this part of the County, have heretofore done their trading in Deattls, it is easier and possibly cheaper to go there under the present order of things. Business increasing in volume fal 1©ws established lines, and we cannot expect to divert. this trade t© Pt To~rnsend without first making Ours@lv8s accessible by building a road and so aecuring their friendship and good will, to the end that their present inelination to come here rather than to Seattle would be contanu®d.
