This campaign will support some of the community’s best and most creative ideas for ways to protect and care for the land we share, and strengthen the Land Trust’s ability to meet the growing demands of our region, forever. “The need for our work grows each year,” Executive Director Richard Tucker said. “A successful campaign will help us be even more effective in conserving land, and allow our community to look to the future with creativity, vision, and hope.” Funds raised by Look to the Land are helping to establish Chimacum Ridge as a community forest for all; seeding a Flexible Opportunity Fund to help the Land Trust move quickly to secure priority properties as they become available; and growing the Forever Fund Operating Endowment to ensure that the Land Trust can protect the land in its care forever. Early supporters have responded generously to the campaign’s invitation by giving and pledging more than $6.3 million (77 percent) toward its $8.25 million goal. Through donations, ticket sales, and sponsorships, we raised more than $270,000! Wow! As our LandFest guests arrived at the marina, they were greeted by perfect summer weather, crystal-clear views of the Olympics across the water, and live music from local musicians Jonathan Doyle and George Rezendes. Fresh flowers, fronds, and even some antlers bobbed merrily above the crowd as many participated in our “Best Dressed for Fest” nature-themed headwear tradition. In the summer of 2023, the Port of Port Townsend acquired Short’s Family Farm in Chimacum with the objective of developing and maintaining infrastructure and establishing uses of the property that will help sustain and expand agriculture in Jefferson County. With considerable public interest in the Port’s acquisition and ongoing planning for the property, many community members are curious about Jefferson Land Trust’s role in the project. We hope that the following information provides answers to some of the questions we’re hearing.
