North Olympic Peninsula Recompete Plan Will Receive Approximately $35 million to Revitalize the Natural Resources Industries
The North Olympic Peninsula Recompete Coalition (NOPRC) was awarded $35 million by the U.S. Department of Commerce to reinvigorate the economy on the North Olympic Peninsula.
The North Olympic Peninsula Recompete Plan, led by Clallam County, will receive approximately $35 million to revitalize the natural resources industries in the North Olympic Peninsula.
Our region has faced a lack of job opportunities since the decline of the logging industry. To drive renewed economic competitiveness and job creation in the sustainable maritime and
natural resource sectors, the coalition will enhance supply chain infrastructure, scale innovative forest product manufacturing, and support workers in tribal and distressed communities
through various economic development initiatives. EDA funding will be used for cutting-edge manufacturing equipment, a marine transportation fleet, and accessible workforce training.
The coalition’s Recompete Task Force, made up of Tribal and county governments, local community and technical colleges, and economic development partners, is poised to create and connect
residents to good jobs in the natural resources industry.
The Clallam County EDC Board hired consultants for nearly $80 thousand dollars to provide management and research for the coalition. Without this investment, the $35 million dollar award
could not have come to fruition.

New state rebate program brings cost to lease some new EVs to less than $200 a month for lower-income drivers
The Washington State Department of Commerce launched its new Electric Vehicle (EV) Instant Rebate Program. The program will provide up to $9,000 off a new EV lease for low-income drivers
at point-of-sale, bringing lease payments under $200 a month on several popular electric models at current pricing – well below the average gas-powered car payment of more than $700
per month.
Washington is the first state to prioritize low-cost leases as part of an EV incentive program. Under the new program, Washington residents earning up to 300% of the federal poverty
level – $45,180 annually for a single person, or $93,600 for family of four – are eligible to receive $9,000 for a new EV lease of three years or more, or $5,000 for new EV purchases
