HomeMy WebLinkAbout080524 email - Misrepresentations by staff re_ request for equipmentALERT: BE CAUTIOUS This email originated outside the organization. Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. Commissioners, During public comment, I noted that a request for a ‘handheld GPS’ which was included in the equipment request was superfluous because GPS is available in the cell phones that the county provides to its staff. The rebuttal from staff included the statement that “cell service isn’t available in many places”. Almost every mobile phone can use offline navigation to get directions to a location regardless of where they are on the planet. In addition, GPS software in a phone is useable without having an internet connection, and you can navigate preload maps to go through the mapping solutions. That fact that you allowed staff to get away with such a misrepresentation is disappointing. How many other falsehoods will you allow to pass unchallenged? Tom Thiersch PS: As for “waterproof”, how is that relevant? To me, this is just more evidence of staff pawing through a catalog of goodies and buying whatever catches their eye with little regard for cost because, after all, it’s not their own money.
