ment plan - Wayne Peck wetland in Jefferson County I parcel
To: Jefferson County Planners,
This is an updated memo concemi g Wayne Peck's wetland and pole barn project. Mr. Peck has
moved his proposed pole barn's location t parcel 950-101-005. The near side of the barn is to be
located 90 feet from the delineated wetlan edge. The barn's dimensions are 30 by 40 feet. The long \
side falls within the 100 foot buffer, resulti 9 in a 400 square foot overlap within the buffer. This is
actually located within a lawn and in a well. established residential lot. The enclosed photo shows the
condition of the site on June 25, 20"07. ,""
Mitigation may be accomplished b planting an equal area of trees within the buffer or wetland.
Normal restocking for Private and DNR"() ned forest lands commonly runs between 350 and 400 trees
per acre with thinning at 20 years to 150 - tOO trees/acre. For the small area of this mitigation, 3 to 4
trees represent the same initial ratio. I wo Id recommend conifers native'to the area (Douglas Fir,
Western Hemlock, Western Red Cedar, S . ore Pine or Bigleaf Maple). I do not recommend non-natives,
Cottonwood hybrids or Red Alder. A steril hybrid I have seen used locally with good results is a cross
between Monterey Cypress and Alaskan Y lIow-cedar; Leyland Cypress. It does well in nearshore
locations. I recommend using healthy ball ized stock of whatever species is chosen and watering for the
first year. Planting in early Spring is best. here are suitable planting sites along the property lines.
In the original memo, a buffer size of 75 feet was used for Category Two wetlands. This was in
error. 100 feet is the correct buffer.
