I identified the wetland edge and classified the wetland according to Washington State Department of Ecology (1997) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manual (1987) tandards. I understand that only a "partial delineation", a line location and a classification were needed. If the full set of data sheets.and a report is needed, please let me know. The area has been extensively cH nged since the NWI database was drawn. The current wetland is estimated to be between three and four acres (south of the road) and rates as Category 2. Portions have been altered by past land managem nt and development. It is likely that the wetland would be smaller if it were not ponded by the road mbankments on two sides. The portion on Mr. Peck's ownership has been marked with pink flagged wire s kes with WETLAND DELINEATION written on them. 50 foot buffers were originally placed. Working th .ough the data sheets showed that Category 2 buffers were needed. The 75 foot buffer was marked u ing 4 foot wooden stakes with blue flagging. Though small, the wetland contai s a highly diverse mix of habitat types and hydrophytic vegetation: second growth Sitka spruce a d young Red Alder overstory I salmonberry I salal shrub layer over Slough sedgel cattail dominated em rgent patches. There are rather deep water areas although there is no connection to streams or ripari n corridors. . There are salal and Himalaya berry dominated upland patches contained within. It would rate higher if it was directly connected to salt water via the sloughs, however, the long 12" culvert en ctively blocks flow in either direction. This is a logical type break from higher Category wetlands to t e north. Relatively few nonnative weeds were found. . The proposed Pol~ Building site Ii s completely within the wetland buffer, hOYt!ever, the site has been cleared and used as a lawn since b fore the Growth Management Act was passed in 1990 and there are other structures located within the bu ere A portion of the wetland extends rough the back lay/n area. This was very wet when inspected and showed hydric soils. This could easil be restored to nativ~ vegetation as mitigation. sincere~y.. '., L. / .. .' . !/f1!t-'~ trr~ Michael Hag~n. # . ..
