It could become one of the most important protections for federal forests that we have seen in decades. However, to be successful, the proposed amendment must protect all existing old-growth and, critically, chart a course that allows mature forests to develop into old growth. We need your help to ensure that the U.S. Forest Service strengthens the proposal to protect our oldest forests! <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=c17ad09c30cebe81c a2ee965d0885fb5edd686d92d031d9ae1d224616ee8b6815f01c2499726ff2ca1246149cb50d301f806af0092b5eadea5912421420c4643> Take Action to Protect Forests! <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=c17ad09c30cebe818de9991dc1605e95b76dd129bbe1a3b05528793222e40b56e18d3f529cac56019353ffe484d01688ca34463aca8d4ee92eb752914de9305 8> John, I feel the most at peace when I'm in a forest. There's something about the way the sunlight filters through the tree leaves, the smell of earth and twigs, the sound of birds singing and squirrels running along branches. My love and appreciation for forests have grown more over time -- I even went camping for my honeymoon! I picked up foraging for mushrooms and other wild foods a few years ago. Interacting with forests in such a hands-on way has helped me better understand just how connected everything is. I've noticed that a strong network of fungi is healthier if the forest and trees are older. It's clear that allowing time for those symbiotic relationships to form is critical for a thriving forest ecosystem. However, our oldest forests are still at risk of being cut down in the name of "management." The U.S. Forest Service is considering a proposal that could protect old-growth forests from logging. Will you join me in demanding stronger protections for our forests by submitting a comment today? <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=c17ad09c30cebe81ba0b42702b790759da7a2494ab61e160751cdbe785141f41a3efa10470e22cb632b98b01aa194a946dbdf6f4705573cb98e835682b1ce3e4> Take Action! <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=c17ad09c30cebe8119240a0615bb4d13201db68162aa454ec18542b8c9cc465f7868d094573dee8152a1881ebb5e4c446413416003a646d75ad5f314803fd6eb> In Wisconsin, the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is a beautiful staple of the area. Its tree-lined roads and scenic lakes are cherished by many. Its old-growth trees (including a 368-year-old cathedral pine!) are really important for biodiversity, carbon storage, soil health, clean water, and so much more. But there are plans to clearcut a large section of old growth in the national forest, destroying these beautiful old trees. Please help us protect these irreplaceable trees! Send in your comment today to ask the U.S. Forest Service to strengthen its proposal to protect old-growth and mature forests. <http://click.emails.s ierraclub.org/?qs=c17ad09c30cebe8178085c70cd88f9f8dad57dbc68e64fba81a52fe32094f8bcfb32e34a1266e47bc1efdf254ecc6a78ddc021ba7190afe9494043ce54ac5afd> Thank you for all you do to protect our trees, <http://image.emails.sierraclub.org/lib/fe8f1372746d007871/m/1/4a48fb90-8f5e-4dcc-a2ff-071a48280e7b.jpeg> Cassie Steiner Senior Campaign Coordinator Sierra Club Wisconsin Chapter This email was sent to: jeffbocc@co.jefferson.wa.us This email was sent by the Sierra Club 2101 Webster St., Suite 1300, Oakland, CA 94612 Unsubscribe <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=c17ad09c30cebe814b7ec276a80f93b85d6fba7de323cf2ee9f0f43b660a272e78342881c81bc8162afe78bf3d165c4308004eeae8a297529ef8718c7bce04f1> | Manage Preferences <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=c17ad09c30cebe81399bed5bc99d83a173bc16cf351cbece20cf3d2b853cfff0aed5a6283e8df7dd49bd7fcd03b01814500ecfbd42c761524c80b41f59f787ac> | View as web page <http://view.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=6793555ff07c1ddf9e739eeb453d1b144c45fc9eca0a81222c3e3cb9cd33783c31838fd1872ca982180281c7e6e73791aeaf570546a39d83c7497ef176299a5602eda750df5 767e28f1de4d34657c3a2> <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/open.aspx?ffcb10-fe9d10727264057d71-fe2e15727d640578761c75-fe8f1372746d007871-ff2e12787567-fe5810797460007b771d-ff081570756600&d=70244&bmt=0>
