SUMMARY
Provides individual and group nutrition assessment, counseling, education and evaluation, and assisting in
planning, managing, and evaluating nutrition programs by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Conduct individual sessions to assess client's nutritional needs using anthropometric, biochemical, clinical and
dietary information; implement and document care plan.
Assess client medical and dental problems related to nutrition with goal of obtaining appropriate attention in a
timely manner.
Coordinate care with team members and other health care providers and make referrals to appropriate services;
provide and document case management, as appropriate including outreach to clients who could qualify for
Medical Assistance and linkage to Medical services.
Participates on an interdisciplinary team on behalf of clients and community.
Develop and present information to clients individually, in classes or to community groups on nutrition, food
preparation, safe food handling and related topics.
Participate collaboratively with the community to assess and address health issues including the development of
health programs.
Develop and implement nutrition standards for targeted populations such as prenatal and high risk patients.
Provide technical assistance and nutrition consultation, including in-service training for staff and community
agencies.
Act as liaison with food access and subsidy programs.
Keeps confidential client records, statistical records and Client Visit Record data.
Responsible for continuing education via workshops, current literature and resources in order to act as a

community resource.
Attends conferences, professional seminars and regular staff meetings as required for professional development.
Carries out other Health Department activities as requested or essential to program/community functioning.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree (BA) in Nutrition from four-year college or university and a minimum of two (2) years
experience in a Public Health agency.
LANGUAGE SHILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, general business
language, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to respond to common
inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business
community. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to
effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees,
clients, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SHILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply
concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to develop
statistical analysis, interpret statistical data and generate appropriate information to analyze complex
issues.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations
where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions fumished in
written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER SHILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software;
EXPLORER Internet software; EXCEL Spreadsheet software and WORD word Processing
software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Registered Dietician with the Commission of Dietetic Registration (RD), the credentialing agency for the
American Dietetic Association.
Washington State Certified Dietitian.
Must meet all the requirements for the Medicaid Administrative Claiming Program.
Valid Washington State Driver's License.

Knowledge of theoretical and practical principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics.
Ability to establish rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds and lifestyles in a non judgmental and
professional manner, including knowledge and ability to discuss client health risk behaviors.
Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with staff, community physicians and a variety of groups and
agencies. Skill in maintaining working relationships and working with diverse populations.
Knowledge of community health and nutrition resources, universal precautions and sanitation and safety
procedures, medical terminology and scientific information, and federal and state regulations for specific health
programs.
Knowledge of education principles including human behavior and behavior modification techniques. Knowledge
of the range of eating patterns and customs of ethnic groups.
Knowledge of use and care of anthropometric and laboratory equipment.
Knowledge of bio -statistical analysis and nutrition research techniques.
Knowledge of confidentiality guidelines and reporting requirements and medical record documentation.
Knowledge of basic medical and dental assessment techniques and principles. Knowledge of human systems
including anatomy, physiology, biology, human growth and development, psycho -social and family systems.
Knowledge of alternative health care treatment, epidemiology, and basic pharmacology.
Knowledge of grant writing.
Physical assessment skills related to nutrition assessment.
Leadership, group process and group facilitation skills. Skill in problem -solving and handling crisis situations and
hostile clients. Skill in identifying and determining response for emergency situations.
Analytical and diagnostic skills.
Skill in performing anthropometric measurement and hematocrits.
Skill in reading and following written medical orders.
Skill in time management and handling a number of tasks simultaneously.
