This will go on the County Commissioners' agenda next week. Dental Contracts: These contracts are with K. Ben Skerbeck, D.D.S. and Dental Hygienist Cynthia S. They will also be put on the County Commissioners' agenda. Giardia UDdate: There have been no new cases of giardia reported since the last Health Board meeting. The State Department of Health did not find the number of cases excessive. Kathy Stafford has notified the doctors in the area to call their attention to any problems. There was discussion about publishing a newspaper article. DIRECTOR OF NURSING REPORT statistics: Nancy Gow presented the Nursing service statistics as follows: Approximately 1500 shots were given this year at the Flu Immunization Clinics. The HIV counseling and testing is still maintaining a higher level. About a third of the clients from the WIC program will begin meeting at the Tri Area Community Center. These people live in that area, so it is more convenient for them and should reduce overcrowding in the Port Townsend classes. AudiometerlTvDlDanoaram: This machine that tests hearing and middle ear functioning is used in the Well Child Clinic. The machine was sent in for an annual calibration this fall. It will cost at least $500 to repair. It was originally bought in 1960 and they do not combine the two functions in one machine any longer. Nancy Gow explained that the two new machines would cost between $2500-$3000. Nancy said she would do more research and report back. Health Board Minutes: November 20, 1990 Page: 3 Director of Nursina Report - Continued Daycare: Nancy Gow explained that daycare centers are serviced by the state. By law, all daycare centers that care for infants are required to have at least two hours of nursing consultation per month. Nancy would like to have nursing services available to these centers on a more formal basis. Heart Babies: The state epidemiologist's report could not find a common link between the 8 babies born this year in Jefferson county with birth anomalies. This was the result of an extensive survey of the families involved. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH REPORT seauim Sludae utilization ADDlication: Marel Harstad reported that sequim has made application to dump their secondary sludge on a 100 acre site near the Winslow dump site in the Port Ludlow area. They have met all the requirements. Larry Fay explained that they are going to set up a sprinkler system and pump the sludge directly through the tank or to a distribution system and out through sprinklers. This increases the growth of trees without using commercial fertilizer. There was a discussion about the process to approve the application and any additional information that would be needed. Inert DumDsite - Indian Island: Indian Island has applied for an inert dumpsite permit. The dumpsite is a natural hole in the ground. They want to dump road waste in this area, and plan to fill it in with sandy dirt when they are done. * * * * * * * The next regular meeting will be held Tuesday, December 18, 1990.
