PETITI ON. Comes now your petitioner, Western Steel C orporati on, a corporation organized and existing under the laws of the State of Washington, and having its principal place of business in the city of Seattle in said State, and respectfully prays that it may be permitted and authorized to construct a bridge across Chimacum Creek in Section 35 of Township 30 North of Range 1, West of the WillamYnette Meridian, connecting Second Avenue in the plat of Irondale filed for reeor d June 3, 1909, with Hilton an d Carnegie Avenues in the plat of Irondale, Division Na. 6~ all as shown upon the map of Irondale hereunto attached an d made a part hereof; said bridge should be approximately eighty (80) Feet above the ground in the center of the channel of Chimaeum Creek, and to run on a uniform grade from one bank of said creek to the other, and to be constructed 3n accordance with the plans and specifications herewith submitted; said bridge to be constructed by said Western Steel Corporation primarily for its o~~n use ~.d benefit but to be at all times open to public traffic, subject only to such restrictions as your Honorable Board and the requirements of ordinary care and safety may impose; said bridge not to be altered or removed by your petitioner except after sixty (6(J) days notice in writing to the Board of County Commissioners of Jefferson County. SPECIFIC~iTIONS FOR BRIDGE OVER CHI]~dACUi~d CREEK On 2nd Ave., in the town of Irondale, Jefferson County, t~ashington. The. nature of these specifications is to provide for the furnishing of all material, tools and labor and erecting bridge over Chimacum Creak in the town of Tr ondale, as per the following specifications and plans hereto attached, which are made apart of these speeifi.cations. Height of bridge to be approximately 80 feet -above the ground in center of channel over Chimacum Creek and run on a level or uniform grade t o the bank on each bank of said creek, the entire length of bridge to be 440 feet. Bridge is to be capable of sustaining a 12-ton rolling load. BENTS. Bents to be composed of five piling to each bent 17 feet center to center with three horizontal and six sway braces to each bent on all bents over 60 feet in height. All bents under 60 feet to be sway braced with one set of sway braces to each 20 feet in height. PIZ ING . Piling shall be of good sound fir and of sufficient length to bring the bridge up to the aforesaid height after being driven to a solid foundation, said foundation to be determined by the penetration, said penetrationto be one inch to a 12 foot fall of a 2000 lb. Homer or equivalent thereto. CAPS . Caps to be 12" x 12" x 22' and drifted to each Pile with one 3~4" a 22" drift bolt. __ - --- STRINGERS. Stringers to be of 3" x 1?" z 18', l0 stringers to each bent well. spiked to each cap with ,two 60 D nails and lapped at each end and well spiked to each other at ends. FLOOR. Floor t o be of 3" z 1~" x 20` surfaced. on one side and 1~ d d.re~sed side dovm with 3~4" spaeaes and nailed with two 60 ~ nails in each stringer. RAID IT3 G. Railing Posts 4" x 4" x 4~t, 8~' C to C and bolted to outside stringer with two ~" a 8" bolts with washers. RA 1I, ING Hub guard 2 g 8 top Rails one 2 z 6 and one 2 x 4 as shown in plan, all material in railing to be S 4 S and well nailed with 20 D nails and to have two coats of Princess ', Metallic Paint. TIMBERS All timber used in the construction of the entire structure to be of good sound fir free, from large or base 3~ots, decay, cap or any defects that would render it unfit for the use intended. I~ORBMANSHIP . The wor~ianship must be first-alas in every respect. ROADV~AY . The roadway shall be 16 ft.wide and also a 4' side walk with a wheel guard of a 6 x 6 laid o~ 2 x 4 blocks every eight feet . RUid BOARD OR TIE BRACE. There shall be one tie brace of 3 a l2 the entire length of bridge halfway from groand to decking well spiked to piles with 80 D spikes. BULKHEAD FOR EDaB~~'KMENT . To be erected at each end of bride as support for earth rill forming approach and to consist of a fir bulkhead 20' ft wide and of sufficient height to bring emban~ent flush with roadway of the bridge, material to be such as is available on the ground and sufficiently strong for reason able safety. TIME OF C C9~IPI,ETION. The entire structure to be completed on or before the 20th day of September 1910. INSPECTION The work and,. ma'tserial to be satisfactory to any authorized engineer or agent of ~festern Steel Corporation. BOND The contractors must give a surety bond in the amount of his bid for the faithful performance of the work satisfactory to the Western Steel Corporation.
