In case of ambiguity of expression in the specifications,o~ doubt~as to the, correct interpretation of the sa.~r~e,the matter shall be sub- mitted to the county ~ngineer,whose decision shall be final. The piles used in the construction of ,this bridge shall all be of old grovath,peeled ceda.ro They shall be straight,sound and solid. in every particular. No pile ma.y be used V1h1Ch is less than ten( IO) inches a,t the smaller end. All piles to be cut off to a grade and height a.s given by the engineer in charge. The,r shall be ~bolte~x to each pile by a(4") three-quarter inch drift bolt,tvventy inches long. SUPLRSTRUCTUI~. The stringers used in tkiis bridge shall be of the best old growth fir timber. They shall be 4"" X I2u X 32' and placed on the caps as shown on the plan. The:~r shall be toe-nailed. to the caps by tyro six(6) inch steel nails to each stringer a,t each cap. ` The floor of this bride shall be made of sound old growth red or yellow fir plank,free from wind sh~~,kes a,nd pitch seams . Planks shall be of merchantable lumber,uniformly three inches in thiekness,a.nd twelve( T2 inches in width,a.nd sixteen(I6) feet in length.. The planks shall be naffed to each outer strin~:,er t~rith two si~t~r( 60) penny spikes,a,nd to the .inner UUtt T = c~ T ; T~~ ,~ T:; ~ ~X v ~... stringers with one sixty(60) penny spike to each stringer,the same being driven on alternate edges,or ustaggered.u After~pla,nks are placed and nailed,the ends a,re to be sawed to a, true line. The successful bidder will be required to furnishpbefore entering upon the work,a private or corporate surit;yr bond in the penal sum equal to the contract price,for the faithful performance of the work. Monthly. estimates of the work done will he made by the engineer in charge,and payment will be made for seventy-five(75) per cent of the value of the work done;twenty- five per cent to be retained until the contract is completed and accepted by the County Commissioners.The ayments ~~#~4 to be made upon the estimates of the County Engineer. Final payments for said work shall be made ~rithin thirty days after the entire v~rork ha.s been completed,and approved by the county Engineer and accepted by the County Commissioners. All payments to be made in warrant or warrants drawn upon the road funds of District number one(I } of Jefferson County.
