The Board of Equalization convened at the Courthouse at 8:15 A.M. on Friday, the
22nd of August for the purpose of traveling to the Clearwater area for a hearing and
inspection trip on a Petition.
BOE-86-057RI Parcel No. 412-183-003: Joseph and Diane Novak appeared at the hearing
and inspection at 1~15 P.M. in the Clearwater area. Board Members Archie Barber and
David Douglas were accompanied by Mark McCready fron the Assessor's Office.
The petitioners
The Petiti oners stated that they felt the ,tmprovements were over valued, and they di d
not contest the valuation of the land. It was pointed out that a garage and carport
on the property burned down a year age.
An inspection of the land indicated that the two parcels of land owned by the Novaks
(Parcel No. 412-183-003 and 412-183-005) were not 50' and 150' wide as specified in
the legal descriptions held by the Assessor's office and further, that that a mobile
home and shed attached thereto were not on the Novak properties.
Mark McCready checked the buildings on the petitioned parcel to validate the values
currently and the County group inspected the house. The current valuations on these
improvements are:
HOUSEQ51 ,550
for a total valuation of
FRUIT SHED 41,100
$56,000. The basic
CARPORT f2,467
CHICKEN COOP #432
valuation represents a 15% depreciation.
It was agreed that the Assessor's Office would initiate further research on the two
parcels~ evaluation and make a subsequent recommendation to the Board on potential
adjustments thereto.
The Board returned to Port Townsend at 6:30 P.M. and adjourned until 9:00 A.M. on
Monday, the 25th of August.
