I would like to state my opposition to using Chimacum Park as a site for a county swimming pool.
As I was walking there today, I was reminded of how much this little slice of forest means to the community. It is used for walking, running and bicycling by many people. It is also
cared for by those same folks. People take responsibility for this area by removing garbage and dog feces.
After the logging operation in 2020, which was promised to be good forest maintenance, trails were obliterated by trash limbs and rutts left by the heavy machinery used to log the site.
Users of the park cleaned up and opened up the old trails so that they could be used again by everyone.
The park is now recovering in a way that reinforces nature's ability to do so. It's breathtaking to see the healthy return of native shrubs, plants and ferns.
This small piece of forest is a gem in our community and is valued and cared for by the people who use it.
