Purpose: Grant authority to the Jefferson County Elections staff to conduct a manual
recount of the August 6, 2024 Primary Election

The Canvassing Board met August 20, 2024 at 1:01 pm to certify the Results of the Jefferson County
August 6, 2024 Primary Election.
On August 22, 2024 the Secretary of State Certified the statewide results for the August 6, 2024 Primary
Election. With the Commissioner of Public Lands race having 51 votes (0.0064%) difference the
Secretary of State has directed that each county canvassing board complete a mandatory manual
recount.
Per RCW 29A.64.030 and RCW 42.30.080 notifications were made to the parties, press, and candidates
via email on August 22, 2024 to provide them with notice no less than one day prior to this canvassing
board meeting and one day before beginning the recount process. To notify the public, the press release,
agenda and a schedule of event were posted on our website on August 22, 2024.
AGENDA ITEMS
1. Motion and Potential Action to Authorize the Jefferson County Auditor to Perform
Tasks Necessary for a Recount
Staff recommends that the Jefferson County Canvassing Board and give the Jefferson County
Auditor, at the time the recount is called and notice of the recount has been provided, the
authority to continue work, to open secure ballot storage containers, recount ballots for the race of
Commissioner of Public lands, to set costs for the recount and to complete the election.
A. Motion and Second:
Motion to authorize the Jefferson County Auditor and the employees of the Jefferson County Auditor’s
Office to act as representatives of the canvassing board in conducting and processing election materials
for the August 6, 2024 Primary Election recount. These duties include:

Ballots: Preparation, distribution, signature verification, ballot inspection, scanning, copying, tabulation,
duplication, research/presentation to canvassing board and processing per instructions.
Certification of Election: Presenting all paperwork to the board for certification.
Recanvassing/Recount: Open sealed ballot boxes and perform all duties needed for the recanvassing
and/or recount of the August 6, 2024 Primary Election, Commissioner of Public Lands race.
