Vernon to see side by side comparison of common commercial varieties, Washington farmer recommended varieties, new wireworm resistant lines and unreleased breeding lines from the USDA sweetpotato program that are being assessed for western WA growing conditions. Different planting and growing techniques will be on display, such planting slips horizontally vs. vertically, the use of black plastic mulch vs. no mulch and growing sweetpotatoes vertically on a trellis. Farm Tour Field Day - 10:00 am - 12:00 noon All are invited to join the OSA NW Research and Education team for a field walk and tasting to learn about our current research projects and partnerships. Featured projects include carrot, spinach, tomato, sorghum, mung bean and buckwheat trials. We’ll start with an overview, walk through the trials and culminate with a participatory taste test of a diverse rainbow of carrot varieties. Buckwheat Festival - 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Co-hosted with Washington State University. Come on out and join conversations about the potential of buckwheat to diversify our local diets and enhance our farm ecosystems. Buy-Protect-Sell Program launched with Jefferson Land Trust, Seeking Selection Committee Later this year, Jefferson Land Trust will have an exciting opportunity to open up the opportunity to sell a protected piece of farmland in Chimacum, through a process called Buy-Protect-Sell. Before then, a community Selection Committee is being formed and this committee will be an essential part of this farmland access opportunity. The committee will help guide and influence the selection of the next farmer-buyer of this property.
