SUMMARY: Provides direct supervision and leadership for the youth and adult activities of
Jefferson County Parks and Recreation held at the Port Townsend Community Center and other
sites as assigned, by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
Develop relationships with staff and families. Communicate with the general public regarding
information about Recreation Department programs and activities.
Evaluate existing Recreation Center programs.
Develop seasonal timeline in conjunction with school calendars.
Manage special programs (Grant Street, Halloween party, Summer Adventure Camps, etc.)
Develop cleaning schedule and clean the Recreation Center.
Run day to day operation of the Recreation Center and conduct the general business of the
Recreation Department office during afternoon and evening hours at the Center.
Supervise clerk hires (monthly work schedules, timesheets).
Work as part of a larger team on the leadership of the Recreation Center and the non-sport
recreation programs.
Facilitate program growth using partnerships, volunteers, donations and fees.
Work to raise the profile and brand recognition of Jefferson County Parks & Recreation through
effective social marketing.

Maintain records and administrative practices.
Attend Division staff meetings and training workshops.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities, but is a
"lead" position in the division of assignment for temporary, seasonal and clerk hire positions.
Lead responsibilities include assisting the Department Head and/or Supervisor with interviewing,
training, planning, assigning and directing work. Lead positions also provide input for
performance appraisals and assist in addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must
be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are
representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 3 (three) years
related experience and/or training in recreation leadership and program
development; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience
planning and implementing short term and long term events such as concerts,
festivals, afterschool programs, and summer camps is desired. .
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Effective writing and speaking techniques to successfully promote park and
recreation programming demonstrating interpersonal communication skills and
public relations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and
percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in
situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety
of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of
database software; internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing
software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
A valid Washington State Driver's License
A basic First Aid card and CPR certification
Membership in Washington State Recreation and Parks Association (WRPA) is desirable or can
be obtained within 3 months of hire.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of planning, maintaining, organizing,
implementing and evaluating year round recreation programs and recreation facilities for youth

and adults of all ages in the areas of classes, special events, teen programming, athletic events,
cultural arts and special populations.
Interpersonal skills for. working with the public and county employees.
Independent and self motivated to complete required assignments by established
deadlines while simultaneously completing other tasks.
Ability to complete various required training classes necessary for functional skills performance,
maintenance and improvement.
