JCIRA seeking housing for asylum-seeking family of four — Please Help!
A local asylum-seeking immigrant family from Mexico with two young children is living in unsafe and unhealthy conditions in a garage in Port Townsend. They are hardworking wonderful
people who need urgent help.
We’ve already contacted local housing organizations to no avail, and they have also been added to an impossible waitlist for low-income housing in the community. As we all know, affordable
housing is a challenge for many in Jefferson County - this is only compounded for immigrant families, especially those who are forced to flee their home countries with nothing.
We are worried about the safety of their housing, particularly for the upcoming winter, and want to see them in comfortable housing for at least the school year. Are you able to offer
safe housing to this family?
They are able to pay nominal rent, but we are really seeking a community member with adequate space or an ADU to step up. Housing needs to be in Port Townsend so the children can stay
at their current schools and are able to bus to school.
