I am writing to express my deep concern about the current state of our community pool and to emphasize the urgent need for a new aquatic facility. As a parent of a swim team member,
I have seen firsthand how the outdated pool fails to meet the needs of our swimmers, the broader community, and public safety standards.
The current facility is not only aging but is often unusable due to issues like the overly warm water temperature, lack of adequate lanes for multiple activities, and the absence of
essential features like a diving board. Additionally, frequent closures over the years highlight that the pool has far exceeded its life expectancy.
A new aquatic facility would not only address these concerns but also provide a safe, sustainable space for swim teams, lessons, water aerobics, and recreational use—activities that
our current pool cannot accommodate simultaneously. It is vital that our community, especially our youth, have access to a safe and functional facility to continue fostering health,
wellness, and growth.
I urge you to support the efforts of the task force and the Port Townsend School District in making this much-needed improvement a reality.
Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.
Sincerely,
Ashley Quinn
