Dear Joint County-City Healthier Together Task Force Members, I am writing to express my strong support for constructing a new aquatic facility for our community. As a pool user, teacher, former JeffCo Aquatic Coalition board member and swim coach I am deeply involved in aquatic activities and understand the challenges posed by our current pool and the limitations it creates. The current facility is well past its life expectancy, it won’t last much longer. It is limited due to its size and lack of modern amenities. The small, single pool restricts the number of programs that can take place simultaneously. This severely limits access to lap swimming, lessons, swim teams, open-swim, aqua aerobics and more. A new facility with more than one pool is crucial to meet the needs. Multiple pools would allow various programs to run concurrently, such as lap swimming in one tank and swim lessons or free-swim in another, maximizing community access and usage. Different water temperatures in each pool would further enhance usability—cooler for lap swimming and warmer for other activities. This flexibility would ensure that all members of our community, from young children to seniors, could participate in programs suited to their needs: fitness, mobility, fun, safety, engagement, and more. Water safety is particularly important for our young children. A pool provides swim lessons and safety programs, teaching essential life-saving skills. Many families travel an hour on weekends to Shore Aquatic Center for better, more fun swimming options, underscoring the demand for an upgraded facility here. As discussed in a recent online task force meeting, many of you experienced well- designed pools and the air and water quality they offer; you can see, smell, feel, hear and breathe the differences compared to our pool. A modern design and up-to-date amenities would significantly enhance comfort, programs and safety for all users. I urge you to support this essential project, which will expand opportunities for everyone in our community through a well-designed, multi-pool facility. Sincerely, Peter Braden pool user, second grade teacher, swim coach, former JAC board member
