Sonia Frojen Board Member, Grant writer ----- Forwarded message --------- From: Jay Baersten <jay.baersten@wshs.wa.gov <mailto:jay.baersten@wshs.wa.gov> > Date: Tue, Sep 17, 2024, 3:49 PM Subject: 2025-2027 HCP Application Status To: Jay Baersten <jay.baersten@wshs.wa.gov <mailto:jay.baersten@wshs.wa.gov> > Cc: David Schingeck <David.Schingeck@wshs.wa.gov <mailto:David.Schingeck@wshs.wa.gov> > Congratulations! Your Heritage Capital Projects (HCP) application for the 2025-2027 funding biennium has been included in the ranked list of projects that will be recommended to the Washington State Legislature for inclusion in the Washington State Historical Society’s (WSHS) capital budget request. If approved for funding by the Legislature, you will be awarded a grant during the next enacted capital budget. Attached is the full list of projects that will be recommended and the funding amounts decided upon by the HCP Advisory Panel at the public meeting held on September 5, 2024. The panel ranked applications by order of merit and according to their expertise in the fields of history, museums, archives, and historic preservation. This list and a recording of the meeting can be found on the program website: https://www.washingtonhistory.org/hcp <https://www.washingtonhistory.org/across-washington/grants/heritage-capital-projects/public-meeting/> Next Steps: 1. Legislative Process: WSHS will include this ranked list of projects in our agency’s capital budget request. The Legislature will determine the capital budget during the session in early 2025. Once that budget is finalized and a bill is passed by both chambers, the Governor will sign the bill and the capital budget will become enacted law. The next state fiscal cycle will likely begin July 1, 2025, but if there are delays in the legislative process, it may be later. 2. Contracting: Any projects included in the enacted budget signed by the Governor will begin the contracting process with WSHS. HCP staff will host a mandatory contracting workshop for all new grantees prior to any contract negotiations or signing. WSHS staff will be contacting grantees individually to discuss their projects and the guidance that was offered by the panel. You may be required to provide additional information or materials during the contracting process based on panelist feedback or issues identified with your application materials. 3. Project Work: Only after your contract is fully executed (signed by all parties) may any project work begin that you intend to be reimbursed for. No work performed prior to your contract execution date may be reimbursed (meaning paid for with grant funds) regardless of whether it is invoiced before or after the contract date. As project work progresses, you will submit regular status reports to HCP staff in the Heritage Portal, and all project work must be completed by June 30, 2027. We encourage you to let your community and legislators know that a project in their district has been recommended for funding. Share your enthusiasm for your project, its importance to your community, and your passion for preserving and sharing the history of Washington State. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you, and congratulations again!
