Dear Jefferson County Board of Health, Updating my public comment zoomed in from the ballpark yesterday, the Mariners' early 3-2 lead fortunately persisted to the end, with their early strong hitting petering out but replaced with strong pitching that stifled Yankees offense! https://media.avcaptureall.cloud/meeting/1fde854a-dfa0-4a12-b0a0-b5ff8ab392f3 I kept one ear to the Board of Health meeting during the remainder of the game, so appreciated the heartening report about paper mill particulate matter and the new owners' attending to neglected maintenance of Aerated Stabilization Basin ponds. Commissioner Brotherton asked a good question about how things may have changed since the 2018 data on which the particulate report was based, so I hope there will be follow-up studies. I spoke in my public comment about two worlds, one being the non-vaxed for whom Covid is old news, the other being the multiply-boosted getting Covid over and over again. Health Officer Berry responded that the lack of Covid recurrence in the unvaxxed is because they don't undergo as much Covid testing. A much more plausible explanation is that the unvaxxed have developed longstanding, perhaps lifetime natural immunity after having recovered from contracting Covid, even from extremely mild cases that may have gone unnoticed. By contrast, any temporary immunity from the original Covid vax is now waning and current boosters peter out after 3 months, according to Berry's report to the County Commisioners on September 3, 2024. https://www.peninsuladailynews.com/news/covid-19-rates-are-high-on-peninsula/ That may also be due to the well-known "original antigenic sin" phenomenon whereby immune systems preferentially imprint on the variant present at the time of initially vaxing, leaving "the immune system 'trapped' by the first response it has made to each antigen, and unable to mount potentially more effective responses during subsequent infections" by new variants. That's one reason why vaccination is essentially inappropriate when it comes to respiratory infections prone to rapidly mutating variants. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_antigenic_sin Another reason why the vaxed have proven so susceptible to bounceback Covid is the discovery that "IgG4 Antibodies Induced by Repeated Vaccination May Generate Immune Tolerance to the SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein" so that "repeated vaccination with the mRNA vaccines may not be a protective mechanism; rather, it constitutes an immune tolerance mechanism to the spike protein that could promote unopposed SARS-CoV2 infection and replication by suppressing natural antiviral responses." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10222767/ In other words, after getting the first booster shot, the vaxxed immune system may give up fighting Covid and switch into tolerance mode, merely masking symptoms while potentially remaining dangerously contagious to others. Berry also responded about the importance of vaxxing infants and pregnant women, which I feel is extremely ill-advised. Infants need to develop their natural immune system, so mustn't be antigen imprinted and immunocompromised by early Covid vaccination... especially given that Covid risks decrease the younger the patient. Pregnant women were never included in the "warp speed" experimental trials so they and their unborn babies should not be exposed to unknown risks. Your truly, Stephen Schumacher Port Townsend
