HomeMy WebLinkAbout092624 - WSF New Vessels UpdateALERT: BE CAUTIOUS This email originated outside the organization. Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. Good afternoon elected officials and partners from ferry-served communities: I’m sharing information on an important update on WSF’s new vessel program. As you know, in in late May, WSF issued an “Invitation to Bid” (IFB) for the new hybrid/electric 160-vehicle auto ferries the legislature has directed, and funded, us to build. Yesterday, we reached an exciting milestone in the new build project, with three shipyards submitting prequalification information. One of those companies is in Washington; two in other states – Florida and Pennsylvania: * Nichols Brothers Boat Builders <https://www.nicholsboats.com/> – Freeland, Washington * Eastern Shipbuilding Group <https://www.easternshipbuilding.com/> – Panama City, Florida * Philly Shipyard <https://www.phillyshipyard.com/> – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania The next step in our extensive prequalification process is to visit these shipyards. Meanwhile, work continues to finalize the vessel design culminating with the issuing of the remainder of the IFB before the end of the year. We are still on track for having new vessel(s) by 2028. I will keep you apprised as we move forward on each step. Please let me know if you have any questions.
