Hello Commissioners (et al)—
We are very pleased to finally be pointing toward a celebration of the completion (we hope!) of the main elements of the Hall Baetz Viewpoint and we are very hopeful that Jefferson County
can be well-represented at this invitation-only gathering. Though there are significant elements of the overall vision that have been deferred for economic reasons, we are holding
the celebration at this time for a variety of reasons, one being that Hall’s widow is declining and we very much want to have her present.
As I think you know, we regard this new facility as both a prominent contribution to our ongoing advocacy to complete the ODT (and to connect the ODT to Hood Canal), and as a place to
tell the many stories that are present there across several themes such as indigenous history, recent history, the ODT, railroading, natural history, and the extensive bay & shoreline
restoration that continues. We have deeply appreciated the roles that the county has played as we have developed, permitted, and built this first phase of what we envision as a multi-phase
project (in large part due to fundraising needs).
To date, it appears that the other critical partners to the site work and the shoreline restoration program will be able to attend: Jefferson Land Trust, WDFW, North Olympic Salmon
Coalition, Cooperative Extension Service, and others. We also hope that we will have our long-time ODT partners, the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe, present with us as well, but they have
a conflicting tribal event that may prevent their participation. It’s our hope that Jefferson County will be well-represented when we celebrate and that we can ask for a few words
from one of you on behalf of the county. Thank you very much for considering this invitation. Yours, Jeff B.
Yours,
