REAL PROPERTY PETITION FORM
Enclosed is a Real Property Petition form for you to give Notice of Appeal. Complete the form and
return to the Board of Equalization, 1820 Jefferson St, Port Townsend, Washington 98368. Please
be sure to keep a copy for your records. Notification of your hearing date and time will be sent to you in
writing.
REQUIREMENTS FOR NOTICE OF APPEAL
1) Petitions shall be filed on or before July 1, 2024, or 30 days from the postmarked date of
Change of Value. If filing after July 1, a copy of the determination notice (Change of Value
Postcard) must be attached to the petition. Without this information, your petition form will
not be considered complete.
2) File a separate petition form for each parcel number under appeal.
3) Fill out the petition form in its entirety, or your petition form may be considered incomplete.
4) The facts and grounds upon which the equalization is sought should be clearly stated.
5) The address to which the Order of the Board and other mail is to be sent must be included on
the Petition.
6) Any documented evidence which the petitioner considers material to the valuation should be
attached to the Petition form (exhibits).
7) List specific reasons for the appeal. The weight is on the Appellant to prove the Assessment
by the Assessor's Office is incorrect. By law, the Board CANNOT consider the following: the
amount of taxes, the assessed value of other properties, the percentage by which the
assessment increased: personal hardship; and other matters unrelated to the market.
