Job Description
Job Title: Seasonal Temporary Parks Assistant
Department: Public Works
Reports To: Parks & Recreation
SUMMARY: This position performs daily maintenance of county parks.
Supervision and guidance are received from the Parks Maintenance Lead position, the Parks &
Recreation Manager and the Director of Public Works.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may
be assigned. .
Performs landscaping, repairs, and maintenance in county parks, athletic fields, and trails.
Uses mowers, weedeaters, chainsaws and other small tools and equipment.
Collects trash, cleans and maintains facilities.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma/GED and two years experience in parks maintenance or related field or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability
to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,
common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral,
or diagram form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Washington State Drivers License.
CPR/First Aid training.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Good health and physical condition. Familiarity with hand and power tools, equipment and
techniques commonly used in the performance of related tasks. Knowledge of landscape and
athletic field maintenance, techniques, methods, and equipment needed in the performance of
same.
Developed interpersonal skills for working with the public and supervisors.
Ability to quickly grasp new techniques, deal with rapid changes in events, remain calm in
stressful situation, relate to various personality styles in a calm professional manner.
Independent and self motivated to complete required deadlines while simultaneously completing
other tasks. Ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner with supervisors, other
employee, and the public.
Ability to work on Saturday and/or Sunday.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use
hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or
hear; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop,
kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to
60 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required
by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception,
and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works alone, regularly works
near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor weather conditions. The employee is frequently
exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high,
precarious places and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical
shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
