Changing the spelling of a
County road name
Van Trojan Rd to Van Trojen Rd
WHEREAS, Jefferson County has received a petition to change the spelling of a County
road name from VAN TROJAN ROAD to VAN TROJEN ROAD, as allowed by Jefferson County
911 Emergency locator System Ordinance Number 12.20.270; and
WHEREAS, the majority of property owners along this road have expressed their desire
for this change by joining in this petition; and
WHEREAS, notice of the public hearing and request for comments prior to or at the
hearing was mailed to all property owners along said road and interested parties on May 4,
2007 and published in the Jefferson County leader on June 6, 2007; and
WHEREAS, East Jefferson Fire-Rescue (FPD#1) and JEFFCOM have responded that this
is an acceptable change and no other responses have been received;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the spelling of Van Trojan Road (CR#520009) shall
now be changed to VAN TROJEN ROAD.

of a County road name
Statement of Issue: A petition has been received to change the spelling of Van Trojan
Road (CR# 520009) to Van Trojen Road.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's 8: Con's: Petitioners state that they would like to change
the spelling of the road name to be consistent with the spelling of the historic Van Trojen
family name since John Van Trojen was the original petitioner for the road. Although Van
Trojen was the petitioner, the road name was spelled Van Trojan on the Road
Establishment document that was signed by the Commissioners and was therefore named
Van Trojan Road. There are currently 26 addresses assigned along the road; property
owners of 22 of the 26 addresses have signed the petition; in accordance with the
Emergency Locator System Ordinance #2-0401-91 (JCC 12.20) notices were mailed to all
adjacent property owners and affected agencies; East Jefferson Fire-Rescue (FPD#1) and
Jeff Com find this to be an acceptable change; no other comments were received.
Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis: No fiscal impact to County as petitioner is
responsible for advertising expenses and the cost of replacing the road sign.
Recommendation: The Department of Public Works recommends that the Board of
County Commissioners review the attached exhibits, conduct a public hearing and change
the spelling of the road name from Van Trojan Road to Van Trojen Road by signing the
attached Resolution.
