Irondale Park Re-Name
Statement of Issue: When lrondale Beach Park was created confusion between it and
lrondale Park arose. Various names have been informally used, but an official name
needs to be made. In addition, the neighbors of Irondale Park have asked that the
park be formally renamed. Residents local to the park were polled, and the name
lrondale Community Park was chosen.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's & Con's: The energy around the Park has increased
since the new playground was installed. Parks and Recreation assisted the neighbors
in focusing and organizing their energy. A neighborhood meeting was held, a
community service project is planned, and local stewardship has increased. Renaming
the park will contribute to strategic goals number 2,3,5, and 8. The pro's include
community development, economic development, and park enhancement. There are
no known con's.
Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis: The costs of the project will be covered by the
existing Community Park Grant Program. The benefits include community
development and neighborhood revitalization.
Recommendation: Officially change the name of the Irondale Park to the lrondale
Community Park.
