As we mourn the loss of our good friend Shawn, we want to take a moment to honor his value not just to us at WSTA but also to his community at Island Transit and the broader public transit industry in Washington. <https://mcusercontent.com/6c70c3a1d76c22fe2ef2a8361/images/90dc0027-8b55-6dc0-cc1e-42019c45fd73.jpg> As Operations Manager for Island Transit, he woke up daily dedicated to his community to ensure service to those in need. As a true public servant, a valued colleague at Island Transit, and an instrumental member of not just the Operations Committee but also the Washington State Transit Assocation, Shawn's legacy will live on for many years. Shawn served as Chair of WSTA's Operations Committee multiple times, helped be an organizing leader of the WSTA Dispatch Forum, participated in WSTA leadership programs, volunteered on the WSTA Roadeo Committee, and presented and organized sessions for our State Conference. Whenever we at WSTA needed him, he was there. When there was a problem, he was ready to solve it, and he did so without complaint. Most importantly, he was a constant mentor to those around him. He was selfless, finding many ways to pass his knowledge, leadership, and skill on to others, a gift worth more than many realize. We are all better because of him. Overall, revenues increased by 11 percent, or $479 billion, while spending increased by 10 percent, or $617 billion. Although steady economic growth and low unemployment have improved the U.S. economy, the deficit continues to grow annually post-pandemic. * On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the September 2024 Consumer Price Index (CPI) <https://watransit.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6c70c3a 1d76c22fe2ef2a8361&id=9cf85933e1&e=7ccb4f03e2> revealing a 0.2 percent increase over the past month and a 2.4 percent increase in the inflation rate over the past year. Core CPI or “core inflation,” which excludes food and energy indexes, for the month rose by 0.3 percent, putting the annual Core CPI rate at 3.3 percent. This position requires the ability to follow instructions and apply acquired knowledge in the use of software applications that enables service to be scheduled as efficiently as possible.
