The Women’s Justice Circle and JCIRA have created an anti-bullying campaign named Sabias Que? (Did You Know?). Together we found that bullying is one of the situations that affects our community in a significant way. In collaboration with Port Townsend School District, we will be sharing through social media, in Spanish and English, the District Code of Conduct. Our goal is to educate the community on how important it is to report any discriminatory behavior. Schools are like a second home for our children. No one should be calling children “border jumper” just because their family migrated from México. We must initiate the conversations at home. The false rhetoric about the immigrant community on TV and social media are hurting all of us; however, this is very detrimental to our children. The rhetoric is hurting the children’s capacity to see and embrace diversity as a way to enlarge our possibilities as human beings. Who is the immigrant community? Why do these people migrate and what is the history of the people in movement? These are the conversations we should be having right now. Their performances across the US and Canada have raised over $11,000 since July for humanitarian efforts in Ukraine, reminding audiences of their country’s vibrant spirit and fight for freedom. Kommuna Lux is committed to spreading their vibrant, bohemian Odesa folk music and raising awareness and support for Ukraine. Their repertoire includes songs that tell the history and spirit of their hometown, Odesa. This historic port city was recently the site of a devastating attack that killed dozens of civilians. El Círculo de Mujeres para la Justicia y JCIRA han creado una campaña contra el acoso escolar llamada, ¿Sabías qué? (¿Lo Sabías?). Juntas nos dimos cuenta de que el acoso es una de las situaciones que afecta a nuestra comunidad de manera significativa. En colaboración con el Distrito Escolar de Port Townsend, estaremos compartiendo a través de las redes sociales, en Español e Ingles, el Código de Conducta del Distrito. Nuestro objetivo es educar a la comunidad sobre lo importante que es reportar cualquier comportamiento discriminatorio. Las escuelas son como un segundo hogar para nuestros niños. Nadie debe llamar a los niños «saltadores de la frontera» sólo porque su familia emigró de México. Debemos iniciar las conversaciones en casa.
