J}1l J}~J 7P'ijo7 STATE OF WASHINGTON County of Jefferson In the Matter of the policy for closing the Courthouse due to strong winds } } RESOLUTION NO. 29~QL WHEREAS, the Central Services Department has previously had an informal poliGY for closing the building during high winds; and, WHEREAS, the Clock tower has been strengthened in 2006 & early 2007; and WHEREAS, the Central Services Oepar1ment wishes to formalize a new policy for dosures due to high winds; and, WHEREAS, the County Administrator is supportive of this new policy, THEREFORE BE IT RESOL VED, that the Board of Commissioners hereby directs the County Administrator to make determinations regarding the closure of the building due to high winds using the following guidelines: Awareness Level: when wind gusts reach 65 MPH or sustained wind speeds reach 55 MPH, the Central Services Department will notify the County Administrator Monitoring Level: when wind gusts reach 80 MPH or sustained wind speeds reach 65 MPH, the Central Services Department will monitor and report wind speeds to the County Administrator every 30 minutes. Evacuation Level: when wind gusts reach 95 MPH or sustained wind speeds reach 75 MPH, the Central Services Department will notify the County Administrator or his designee, who will make the decision regarding evacuation of the building. Note: these guidelines are based on measuring wind speed at the Bell Level of the clock tower. APPROVED this ~ day of July ,2007. Sartin, Central Services Director tf.f(J July 23, 2007 Resolution - Policy for Closing the Courthouse due to High Winds FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: I STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Due to occasional high winds at the Courthouse and various building conditions, the Central Services Department, Facilities Division, has followed an informal building closure policy. Since the Clocktower has been "strengthened", the Central Services Department, Facilities Division, has developed a new policy for the closure of the building and would like the BOCC to formalize the policy. STRATEGIC GOALS: Ensure the safety of employees and all users of the Courthouse during high winds.
