Naming two Private Roads }
Resolution No. 81-07
WHEREAS, Jefferson County has received two petitions (Exhibits "A" & "B") to name
private roads, as shown on the attached map (Exhibit "C"); and
WHEREAS, the petitioner is a property owner on these roads; and
WHEREAS, the petitioner wishes to establish these road names, pursuant to the
Jefferson County 911 Emergency Locator System Ordinance Number 2-0401-91, to allow for
addressing along the roads; and
WHEREAS, research has shown that there are currently three (3) addresses assigned at
milepost 2.13 Duckabush Road; and
WHEREAS, all adjacent property owners have signed the petitions; and
WHEREAS, notifications were sent to affected agencies; and
WHEREAS, Fire Protection District #4 and Jeff Com support the name Briarwood Lane for
the primary road and Dragonfly Place for the secondary road; and
WHEREAS, no negative responses were received for the name choices of Briarwood
Lane and Dragonfly Place;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the primary road is named Briarwood Lane and the
secondary road is named Dragonfly Place.

Naming two private roads
Statement of Issue: A property owner has submitted a petition to name two private roads. These
roads, as shown on Exhibit "C" of the resolution, are located at milepost 2.13 Right on Duckabush
Road, Brinnon.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's & Con's: There are currently three (3) addresses assigned at
milepost 2.13 right, however petitioner is planning development which will require the road to be
named in accordance with the Jefferson County 911 Emergency Locator System Ordinance #2-
0401,91 (JCC 12.20). All adjacent property owners signed the petitions and notices were mailed
to affected agencies on July 16, 2007.
The primary road being named begins at milepost 2.31 right on Duckabush Road and runs in
generally an easterly direction for a distance of 0.55 miles. The following name choices were
given for this road: Staghorn Lane, Briarwood Lane and Briar Glen Road. Brinnon Fire Department
(FPD #4) supports the second name choice of BRIARWOOD LANE; Jeff Com finds this to be an
acceptable choice. No other comments were received.
The second road being named begins at milepost 0.32 left on the primary road and is
approximately 0.10 miles long. The following name choices were suggested: Kestrel Lane, Briar
Glen Lane and Dragonfly Place. Brinnon Fire Department (FPD #4) finds the third choice name of
DRAGONFLY PLACE to be the most acceptable name; Jeff Com finds this to be an acceptable
choice. No other comments were received.
In accordance with JCC 12.20.260, the Board is asked to consider the road name choices together
with the comments received from the affected agencies and accept one of the name choices for
each road. The Board may choose to deny one or both of the petitions and return it/them to the
petitioner for resubmission with new name choices.
Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis: None
Recommendation: The Department of Public Works recommends that the Board of County
Commissioners review the attached exhibits and name the primary road BRIARWOOD LANE and the
secondary road DRAGONFLY PLACE.
