Notably, the national deficit rose by $138 billion to $1.8 trillion this past year; however, the deficit remains $196 billion lower than in 2023. U.S. Department of Transportation Office of the Secretary * On Monday, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) finally announced <https://watransit.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6c70c3a1d76c22fe2ef2a8361&id=a6a2f742f9&e=850008f825> $4.2 billion worth of awards for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025-2026 National Infrastructure Project Assistance (Mega) Grant Program and the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) Grant Program. The funding authorized by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (P.L. 117-58) will support 44 projects across the country, including 35 large bridge projects, 18 large port projects, 20 rail projects, and 85 highway improvement projects. Notably, the final regulations increase transit safety by expanding SSOA oversight to rail projects in the construction and engineering phase of development, enhancing the authority of SSOAs to inspect rail transit facilities without prior notice, enforcing compliance with safety certification training, removing outdated references, requiring the development and implementation of a risk-based inspection program for rail transit agencies under SSOAs jurisdiction, and more.
