It's the Hall Baetz Viewpoint. Upon completion, this wildlife viewing shelter with recreational access, will be a place for community gatherings in a scenic destination. It will serve residents, visitors, travelers, and users of our beloved Olympic Discovery Trail. The viewpoint is truly a collaborative community project. We are developing the viewpoint on property owned by Jefferson Land Trust. Once complete, the site will be conveyed to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. We have also partnered with the North Olympic Salmon Coalition and the Washington State University Cooperative Extension Office. The viewpoint is part of a larger shoreline restoration project. It encompasses the entire head of Discovery Bay and will help restore the damaged natural setting. The late Hall Baetz, for whom the viewpoint is named, was an attorney, avid cyclist, and ODT volunteer. His family has deep roots along Discovery Bay. We honor him because his years of volunteer effort embody the spirit of our organization. The Hall Baetz Viewpoint illustrates how many stakeholders can work together and build community around trails. Our hope is that someday, this viewpoint will be a trailhead and serve as a catalyst for connecting Port Townsend to the trail across Discovery Bay. We need your support to complete this project. Could you run the entire length of the Olympic Discovery Trail (135 miles) in 41 hours? If you're Riley Nachtrieb the answer is yes. Riley has the Fastest Known Times (FKT) for running the ODT. When I met Riley in 2022, she was at an ODT trailhead with her support team. Her team included her parents and grandparents. They were all wearing matching shirts that read, FKT on the back. At the time, I had no idea what that meant. I had to ask.
