WHEREAS, Jefferson County has received a petition (Exhibit "A") to name a private road,
as shown on attached map (Exhibit "B"), either Hawks View Lane or Primrose Lane or Hawks
Prairie Road; and
WHEREAS, the petitioner is a property owner on this road; and
WHEREAS, the petitioner wishes to establish this road name, pursuant to the Jefferson
County 911 Emergency Locator System Ordinance Number 2-0401-91, to allow for addressing
along the road; and
WHEREAS, research has shown that there are currently five addresses assigned at
milepost 1.47 Left on Gardiner Beach Road; and
WHEREAS, notification was sent to agencies and adjacent property owners; and
WHEREAS, two adjacent property owners indicated their support of all three road name
choices; and
WHEREAS, Fire District #5, JeffComm and Sequim Postmaster support Hawks Prairie
Road;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the road be named Hawks Prairie Road,
ADOPTED THIS 19th DAY OF NOVEMBER, 2007,

On August 13, 2007 our office notified you of a petition to name the
private drive located at milepost 1.47 Left on Gardiner Beach Road. That
petition has been withdrawn and a new petition submitted with different
name choices. Copies of the new petition with the road name choices
and a diagram showing the general vicinity of the road have been
enclosed for your review.
Please contact this department in writing prior to Monday, October 29,
2007 if you have comments or concerns regarding this petition.

The petitioners 3"' choice; Tall Tree Lane, is what we belicvc to be the best choice.
1st choice-Fern Leaf Lane would be similar with three other roads within the county road
system-Fern Gulley in Port Ludlow, Fern Way in Chimacum and Fermidge Lane-Port
Ludlow.
2nd choice-Silka Lane would be similar with Shika Lane which is addressed all' of
Anderson Lake Road..

Naming a private road
Statement of Issue: A property owner has submitted a petition to name a private road giving
the following three name choices: Hawks View Lane, Primrose Lane and Hawks Prairie Road.
This road, as shown on Exhibit "B" of the resolution, is located at milepost 1.47 Left on
Gardiner Beach Road, Gardiner.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's & Con's: There are currently five (5) addresses assigned at
milepost 1.47 Left requiring the road to be named in accordance with the Jefferson County
911 Emergency Locator System Ordinance #2-0401-91 (JCC 12.20). Notices were mailed to all
adjacent property owners and affected agencies; Fire Protection District #5 and JeffCom 911
support all three name choices. The Sequim Postmaster prefers Hawks Prairie Road as there
is already a Primrose and a name very similar to Hawks View in Sequim. Two property owners
indicated support of all three name choices by signing the petition. No other comments were
received.
In accordance with JCC 12.20.260, the Board is asked to consider the road name choices
given, together with the comments received by the affected agencies and either accept one
of the choices or deny the petition and return it to the petitioner for resubmission with new
name choices.
Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis: None
Recommendation: The Department of Public Works recommends that the Board of County
Commissioners review the attached exhibits and name the road Hawks Prairie Road.
