Naming a Private Road
Hollybrook Heights Lane
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works has received a petition (Exhibit "A") to name
a private road that exits off Shady Lane at milepost 0.01 right, as shown on the attached map
(Exhibit "B"), either Leavesly Lane, Hollybrook Heights Lane, or Highlander Way; and
WHEREAS, the petitioner is a property owner on this road; and
WHEREAS, the petitioner wishes to establish this road name, pursuant to the Jefferson
County 911 Emergency Locator System Ordinance Number 2-0401-91, to allow for addressing
along the road; and
WHEREAS, notification was sent to agencies and adjacent property owners as required
by the Jefferson County 911 Emergency Locator System Ordinance Number 2-0401-91; and
WHEREAS, Fire District #2 recommends naming the road to avoid confusion with existing
addresses on Shady Lane and to ensure rapid emergency response; and
WHEREAS, Fire District #2 and Jeff Com both support the second name choice of
Hollybrook Heights Lane;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the road be named Hollybrook Heights Lane.
ADOPTED THIS 26th DAY OF NOVEMBER, 2007.

Naming a private road
Statement of Issue: A property owner has submitted a petition to name a private
road giving the following three name choices: Leavesly Lane, Hollybrook Heights
Lane, or Highlander Way. This road, as shown on Exhibit "B" of the resolution, exits
northerly from Shady Lane at milepost 0.01 right.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's 8: Con's: Notice of the petition was mailed to
agencies and adjacent property owners. While there are currently no addresses
assigned at milepost 0.01 right, Fire District #2 recommends naming the road to 1)
avoid confusion with existing addresses on Shady Lane and 2) provide an accurate fire
number (address) that marks the distance from the road origin to the property access
for rapid response in the event of an emergency. Both Fire District #2 and JeffCom
support the name choice of Hollybrook Heights Lane; the other two name choices
would duplicate or be closely similar to existing names or are confusing. One response
was received from the owner of an adjacent, undeveloped property stating that the
only acceptable road name choices are Watz Lane or Boundary Line Rd. Watz Lane
duplicates an established county road name and Boundary Line Rd is a general term.
Another adjacent property owner supports all three name choices.
Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis: None
Recommendation: The Department of Public Works recommends that the Board of
County Commissioners review the attachments and name the road Hollybrook Heights
Lane.
